We are happy to welcome Mariam Shahata, new Research assistant, at AIMES!

Mariam Shahata is new Research assistant in Team Melican from July 2022! We have asked Mariam some questions about what she will do at AIMES and her expectations of the new position.

What did you do before starting at AIMES?

“I studied the Bachelor's program and took a Master's degree in Biomedicine here at KI. I also did my Master´s thesis here at AIMES and worked in the Lab at Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) during my education, so I've had the pleasure of being at KI for a few years already.", says Mariam Shahata.

What made you want to join us at AIMES?

“My research area is the human skin and how it is affected by bacterial, namely MRSA. I am studying different biomaterials that can be used to mimic the skin so that we can understand more how the skin works in relation to diseases and injuries. This type of research requires both medical understanding but also advanced technology – AIMES as a collaboration between researchers at KI and engineers at KTH, suits me and my research interest perfectly!”

Which are the biggest challenges?

“There is very good and advanced research at AIMES and KI in general, so I think the challenge will be to understand what other groups are doing in their projects and how we can collaborate between the groups. How we can best integrate research and technology - we have good conditions for that!”

What do you like to do in your free time?

“I like spending time with my family and friends. I also like long walks in the nature and go to museums. I love the Modern Museum here in Stockholm! I also like to go to museums to learn more about the Swedish culture.”

A warm welcome to AIMES, Mariam!
