Tomas Jernberg new Head of Department at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Danderyd Hospital

Tomas Jernberg is the newly appointed Head of the Department of Clinical Sciences, Danderyd Hospital (KI DS).
The appointment is for five years and has been signed by the Vice president of Karolinska Institutet Anders Gustafsson from March 1st 2020. Professor Jernberg will take over the responsibility of the department from professor Erik Näslund who has been the Head of the department for 15 years.
Tomas Jernberg was born in 1966 and grew up in Söderhamn. He studied medicine at Karolinska Institutet and graduated in 1993. He received his clinical education and basic doctoral education in Uppsala where he was appointed Associate Professor in cardiology in 2004. Tomas has worked since then at Karolinska Institutet in Flemingsberg 2005-2007 and was appointed Professor in Epidemiology in 2016. He moved to KI DS in 2017 and was appointed Professor in Cardiology in 2019. His research has mainly been clinical and focused on acute and chronic coronary heart disease.
