This year’s Ulf von Euler lecture; "The wide wild world of human GABAa receptors”
The Ulf von Euler Lecture is an official annual named lecture of Karolinska Institutet. It was instituted by decision of the faculty at KI upon an initiative taken by Ulf von Euler's former students at the time of his passing away in 1983.
This year’s Ulf von Euler lecture; "The wide wild world of human GABAa receptors” is held by Dr. Radu Aricescu, who is MRC Investigator and Programme Leader at the Neurobiology Division of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK.
Dr. Aricescu is a structural neurobiologist who aims to elucidate fundamental principles of neuronal synapse formation, function and remodelling, in mechanistic terms. He solved the first structure of a receptor for gamma-aminobutyric acid, the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the vertebrate nervous system. His research groups continue to explore the vast molecular diversity of neurotransmitter receptors and employ structural knowledge to design synthetic molecules for the engineering and repair of neuronal circuits.
