Spring Highlights from CES
GPH have a close collaboration with the Centre for Epidemiology and Community Medicine (CES), Region Stockholm, where several of our research groups are based. Like GPH, CES conducts public health research and education as well as strategic public health work, intending to contribute to good and equal health for the population. Henna Hasson, Director of CES, shared some insights on the collaboration and activities this spring. Here are some of the highlights.

What has CES been up to during spring?
This spring, CES has published reports on key public health issues, such as high blood pressure and chronic pain. Our first 2025 report examined hypertension screening at primary care clinics in Region Stockholm. The latest report focused on the prevalence of long-term pain in the county.
We’re also preparing a major educational conference on endometriosis this October and developing an e-learning course on menopause care.
De-implementation of low-value care is high on the agenda in Region Stockholm. We’re currently developing a methodological guide to support this process, which will be used in a pilot and made available to other healthcare units aiming to get started quickly.
And preparations for the upcoming public health survey Hälsa Stockholm 2026 are in full swing.
How do you perceive the collaboration between CES and GPH?
The collaboration between CES and GPH is important and has a long history. CES and the research groups at GPH located at Torsplan together with other departments such as LIME, form a shared research and development unit between the Region Stockholm and KI (universitetssjukvårdsenhet; USVE). The collaboration works well and is governed by a leadership group consisting of both CES and KI representatives. The goal is that this USVE provides an inspiring environment where research and practice can meet daily.
What opportunities do you see for further strengthening the partnership between GPH and CES?
We have started multiple activities during the spring 2025 to further strengthening the partnership between GPH and CES. For instance, all Phd students at the USVE have presented their research at a poster mingle with a goal of providing learning opportunities across the groups both at CES and GPH. We have also organized a seminar for research group and team leaders as well as CES managers to share our latest interest with the goal of identifying opportunities for future collaborations.
