Scientific Programme at FyFa – Focus on Relevance and topicality
In 2026, FyFa is reviewing its scientific programme with the goal of strengthening the content of our internal seminars. The work includes both the FyFa Research Fika and the FyFa Research Seminars.
“The aim is to create seminars that are relevant and topical, where there is always something important to learn and discuss,” says Head of Department Sophie Erhardt.
New Working Group Secures the 2026 Programme
To support the planning, a small working group, the FyFa Scientific Program Steering Team, has been appointed for 2026. The group consists of Max Bell, Shane Wright and Harald Lund. Their main tasks will be to actively invite speakers to the FyFa Research Fika and to coordinate the feedback element known as the “secret talk,” ensuring that presenters receive constructive feedback in a smaller group.
The working group coordinates with FyFa’s research group leaders, who nominate speakers from their own groups or propose external guests.
FyFa Research Fika according to Established Model
FyFa Research Fika will continue to follow the previously described model, inspired by the Max Planck Institute in Leipzig: everyone at FyFa is given the opportunity during the year to present their ongoing work in a short, popular‑science format, and each presentation is accompanied by a “secret talk.”
The ISP presentations for newly admitted doctoral students will from now on take place at separate ISP seminars, which will be held twice per semester. More information about these seminars is provided when registering a new doctoral student.
We also encourage doctoral students to give a popular‑science talk in connection with their thesis nailing ceremony so that their work can be highlighted.
