Professor Carol Tishelman receives the 2016 Lifetime Award

Professor Carol Tishelman is currently the Professor of Innovative Care at the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm. She has had a distinguished career in cancer nursing and has initiated and led trans-disciplinary research programmes in cancer care, which have made a major contribution to knowledge and practice across Europe and further afield.

Professor Tishelman’s work demonstrates a lifetime commitment to cancer prevention, understanding symptoms and delays, improving cancer care and enhancing patients’ experiences. Her work has been highly influential in terms of policy, practice and the advancement of nursing science, as well as to interdisciplinary research and innovation in cancer care.

Throughout her career, Carol has collaborated with and supported junior as well as senior colleagues, in academia and in practice, showing a commitment to developing future research leaders and to ensuring that research has an impact on the delivery of cancer services.

Her research has secured funding from a wide range of prestigious funders, contributing significantly to developing knowledge as well as strengthening the reputation of cancer nursing research on an International level.

Professor Tishelman has also led and developed world-leading educational programmes, and has supported many initiatives to advance cancer nursing, through EONS, ISNCC and other international partnerships.

She has published a large number of peer-reviewed papers in high impact journals.

She is an accomplished and influential speaker, who has delivered numerous invited lectures and played a leading role in a range of scientific committees for major international conferences. Her influence as an educator, researcher, cancer nurse and role model has already had a lasting impact on the development of knowledge and understanding in cancer and on the clinicians and researchers who continue to develop cancer care.
