Voice problems are common among teachers and others who use their voice extensively in their work. A new research project, funded by FORTE, will develop methods to prevent these problems and strengthen working capacity.

Long-term voice problems can lead to sick leave, reduced quality of life and decreased productivity. This is particularly common in professions where the voice is an important tool, such as teachers and call centre workers.

A new research project, Voice in harmony with work environment – Routes towards a sustainable working voice, led by Sofia Strömbergsson, Senior Lecturer and Speech and Language Pathologist at the Division of Speech and Language Pathology, has received SEK 4,745,000 in funding from FORTE. The project will investigate how to identify risk groups, offer preventive voice training and develop a model for screening voice health in the workplace.
