New method identifies heart attacks

Dina Melki presents in her doctoral thesis a new method that quickly rules out acute myocardial infarction (AMI), or other severe acute coronary disease in patients seeking A&E due to chest pain.

This new method appears to reduce the number of cardiac patients needing to be kept at the hospital for observation by 10-20 percent.

Dina Melki, took her doctorate at Department of Medicine, Huddinge, in November, 2013. She works at Unit for Heart and Lung diseases, KI, and Karolinska University Hospital’s cardiology clinic.
