MMC is awarded funding from FORTE for the project “Let the patient drive! Implementing patient-driven co-care innovations.

The research programme is focused on the development of treatment methods and processes related to healthcare, e-health and co-creation of knowledge between researchers, end-users and professionals in health and social care.

"What is unique about the research project is that the innovation and the design are initiated by the patients", says Henna Hasson, senior researcher and head of Medical Management Centre (MMC) at the Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics (LIME).

Co-care refers to activities in collaboration with patients, relatives and health care professionals, based on the patient’s needs and goals, to achieve optimal health and well-being.

"For MMC this is of great importance and a proof that our mindset involving the patient as co-creators, putting them in the driver’s seat, is the right way to go", she continues.

The research programme is implemented in two phases and studies:

1. The implementation of co-care innovations and the development of outcome measures representing patients’ values
2. The effects of core innovations in clinical practice, health care organisations and patient benefits, as well as the innovations’ spread

Support material will be developed to facilitate the co-care between the involved parties.

Carolina Wannheden, postdoc at MMC adds "This is the result of a long-term collaboration, more specifically within our current research programme Co-Care, where we have built a network of people and created mutual trust between patients and relatives, health care professionals and researchers. This means that we will be able to continue to strengthen our relations and involving patients in our research."
