MBB part of project to improve the department's internal communication

During the autumn and spring term, the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics participates in a project on the department management's communication channels and internal communication at the department. The aim is to gain a better understanding of how communication works today and how it can be developed in the future.

In its first phase, the project will analyse how the department management's communication channels work today and provide suggestions for how the channels can be used in the best way.

"It is important that we ensure that everyone is reached around important urgent issues, such as the coronavirus outbreak, and that everyone has the opportunity to participate in dialogue on common complex issues that drive our department forward", says Sten Linnarsson, MBB's head of department.

Insights will be collected from different groups within MBB:

  • In-depth interviews and a workshop with the head of department, head of administration and five heads of division
  • Structured group interview with principle investigators
  • Structured group interview with employees
  • Survey to employees at MBB

Final report and new proposals to be delivered in February 2021

The interviews with MBB's management will take place in September and October; the group interviews are scheduled for October/November. The report with an analysis of the current situation, a proposal for adapting MBB's communication channels and a plan for how the proposed changes can be implemented will be delivered to MBB's management team in February 2021. The management team will then decide which changes to implement.

“Thank you to everybody who has been involved in the project so far! Your input is the single most important thing for us to take away from this project. My hopes are that we can start a conversation within our department about how we want to communicate with each other, and of course, what we as the department’s management group need to focus on”, says Carina Hammarström.

"It's very interesting to hear how communication within the department is perceived today, and also to get new ideas for how we can work with information and dialogue at MBB in the future”, says Tabea Kemna,  MBB's  communications officer who is leading the project at the department.
