Juleen Zierath awarded the Swedish Medical Society's Jubilee Prize
Professor Juleen Zierath, the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery, is awarded the Swedish Medical Society's Jubilee Prize 2019 for her pioneering translational diabetes research. Her studies have led to new and important knowledge that can improve the health of many people living with diabetes.
Prize motivation
“Juleen Zierath works translationally to understand mechanisms behind insulin resistance and exercise-induced lipometabolism. Her findings reveal basic epigenetic regulatory mechanisms that are influenced by our inherent clock, circadian rhythm. The studies show that exercise must be coordinated with the individual body clock to be effective. The findings will affect how we organize training, rehabilitation and how diet and exercise can improve insulin resistance in diabetics ”.
The Prize Ceremony will be held at the Swedish Medical Society's Annual Celebration on November 12, 2019.
