IMPACT TB consortium meeting about collaboration, exchange and knowledge translation to end tuberculosis
As part of the EU Horizon 2020 funded project IMPACT TB, Knut Lönnroth, Olivia Biermann and Kerri Viney from the Department of Public Health Sciences participated in the IMPACT TB consortium meeting and policy dialogue in Kathmandu, Nepal.
IMPACT TB is a project to find and treat cases of tuberculosis (TB) in communities in both Nepal and Vietnam. Karolinska Institutet’s stake in the project is dissemination of research findings and knowledge translation. During the consortium meeting on July 3-4, all project partners presented (preliminary) results from their work which ranged from implementing active TB case-finding activities to research in the areas of mathematical modelling, health economic evaluations and policy research amongst others.
Policy briefs based on IMPACT TB’s health economic evaluation created by KI
To discuss evidence with key stakeholders in Nepal, KI convened a policy dialogue together with Nepal’s National TB Programme. The dialogue was held back-to-back with the consortium meeting on July 4 in Kathmandu.
The aim of the dialogue was to complement what is known form research with stakeholders’ tacit knowledge, e.g. their experience. Based on the deliberation, the policy briefs will be finalized and shared among stakeholders to inform future policy and practice.
The policy dialogue brought together stakeholders from the national government, the National TB Programme, the World Health Organization, non-governmental organizations, universities and research institutions, leaders from the IMPACT TB project districts, as well as volunteers and people affected by tuberculosis.
Alongside KI, all project partners from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (with Dr Maxine Caws as principal investigator of IMPACT TB), the KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, the Birat Nepal Medical Trust and Friends for International TB Relief participated in the meetings.
