GPH welcome day for 107 new master students in global and public health
On 5 September, master students in global health and public health attended a Welcome Day that involved information about what it means to be a student at GPH, available student support, and a case challenge.
The case challenge started with a lecture on climate and health followed by cross-programme group work. The sub-heading of the lecture and group work ‘from hot topic to burning issue' was reflected in the strong interest and engagement of the students who together identified a focal climate change problem, the roots of the problem as well as its consequences on health and potential solutions. The group exercise was illustrated as a tree and presented as posters. A poster tour led by the group exercise organisers Ann Liljas, Ester Gubi and Yajun Liang, provided insight into the work of the different groups.
"It was fascinating to see how the students, who don’t know each other since before, started collaborating with great enthusiasm. Many of them demonstrated a true interest in the topic as well as in finding causes, consequences and solutions to the climate change issue they had chosen. I look forward to seeing them again soon when teaching " says Ann Liljas, teacher at the Health Promotion and Prevention track on the Public Health programme.
The day was hosted by the UN GPH.
