Gösta Gahrton received the title jubilee doctor
Gösta Gahrton is one of the doctors who received the title jubilee doctor during a promotion ceremony at Stockholm City Hall on 10 November. The title jubilee doctor recognises 50 years as a doctor or, as Gösta himself put it, that one “is very old”.
Gösta defended his thesis on the subject of clinical and biological studies in leukaemia, but over the years his research has moved into the field of stem cell transplantation in conjunction with myeloma, a chronic cancer of the bone marrow.
Gösta currently has several projects underway, including a collaboration with Hareth Nahi and Evren Alici at HERM, who carry out research into stem cell transplantation. He is also participating in several studies for the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), in which doctors from various countries contribute results from stem cell transplantations to be compiled in a register for use in research and monitoring. Among other things, they look at how transplants differ depending on whether a donor has been used or not. All to discover new and improved methods to prolong the lives of patients with severe cancers.
Congratulations on the award!
