Get involved in the working groups for FyFa’s development
As part of KI’s research assessment KIRA, several new working groups are now being launched at FyFa to strengthen our research and activities.
Karolinska Institutet’s university-wide research assessment, KIRA (KI Research Assessment) , is part of KI’s systematic quality and improvement work and is carried out every 6–8 years. In 2025, FyFa took the first steps in the process: a self-evaluation with broad staff participation, and a short action plan outlining what we need to improve — and which opportunities we should seize.
What happens next?
In 2026, FyFa will receive feedback from both the campus seminar and the external expert panel that will visit KI and the department in March. Based on this feedback, we will finalise the action plan, which will then be followed up annually as part of KI’s quality seminars.
Working groups – where development happens
To drive the work forward, we are now launching several working groups linked to different parts of the action plan. Much of this work will take place in parallel, and together the groups will contribute to develop FyFa in the areas of research, education, and work environment.
“We are now entering an important phase. The new working groups will drive key initiatives forward,” says Head of Department Sophie Erhardt.
Register your interest by contacting FyFa’s management team. If you have any questions, please contact your immediate manager.
Regular updates on the work will be presented at FyFa’s joint department meetings during the year.

The Self‑Evaluation and the Action Plan – the Foundation of Our Improvement Work
FyFa’s self‑evaluation, submitted in September 2025, was based on broad staff engagement as well as material from FyFa Dialogue and our strategic work. Together, these provided a clear picture of FyFa’s strengths, development areas, and opportunities. Based on this, the management group developed a short action plan with concrete measures, which now forms the basis for the working groups being launched.
