Ganesh Phad awarded the Sven Gard’s Scholarship for the best dissertation thesis in Virology 2018
Ganesh Phad has been awarded the Sven Gards stipendium for 50 000 kr the the best dissertation thesis in Virology for 2018. Ganesh presented his thesis based on four original articles, three of which were published in highly renowned scientific journals and one in a manuscript format. His thesis work focused on HIV-1 and the immunogenic properties of the HIV-1 envelope glycoproteins. The aim of this work was to understand how viral escape from humoral responses influences the induced antibody repertoire and to investigate if B cells recognizing non-neutralizing epitopes out-compete B cells directed against neutralizing antibody epitopes. The tools developed by Ganesh will likely be broadly applicable to the field of viral immunity.
Sven Gard's scholarship is awarded annually by the Board of Research at Karolinska Institutet for the best dissertation in virology. The scholarship takes place as a result of nomination.
