After 4 semesters with committed participants, the leadership development program FAL Nord (Future Academic Leaders Nord) has now ended. Kristiina Tammimies from KBH participated and has brought valuable knowledge with her to her current and future leadership.

It began in the fall of 2022, where department management nominated people whose potential was percieved to become further optimized with a specific program focused on the insights and skills a leadership role at KI requires.

The purpose of the program was to:

  • Support promising managers in their development as leaders.
  • Prepare the participants for future management assignments at departmental or organizational level at Karolinska Institutet.
  • Create institution-wide networks and collegial learning across business boundaries.

Kristiina Tammimies from the Department of Women's and Children's Health participated. Great emphasis was placed on the participants' willingness to invest time and energy in the program and their willingness to develop themselves and others.

- My expectations were to gain a deeper insight into leadership and cooperation within KI and also Region Stockholm. I was also looking forward to the opportunity to build networks with other leaders from the various "Nord" institutions and exchange experiences.

The program gave an in-depth look at operational management from an institutions perspective to KI as a university and authority. Great emphasis was placed on communication, leading colleagues and leading teams. FAL also contained extensive elements of personal development as well as cooperation and interactions within the group.

-The knowledge and experience I gained from FAL Nord, e.g. the understanding of strategic leadership at different levels at KI, will make me better equipped to possibly take leading roles within the institution/KI in the future.
