CLINTEC researcher awarded prestigious prize for research on communication in Parkinson's disease
Hanna Steurer, researcher at the Division of Speech and Language Pathology, has been awarded the Elsa and Inge Andersson Prize 2025 for the best thesis on Parkinson's disease.
The prize, awarded by the Parkinson's Foundation, is worth SEK 100,000 and recognises her thesis, which highlights new opportunities for improving communication for people with Parkinson's disease.
"The award is a great honour and encouragement to continue my work. It also feels good and important that more people are becoming aware of how important communication is for people with Parkinson's disease" says Hanna Steurer.
In her research, Hanna Steurer links speech disorders to changes in the brain and evaluates, among other things, the group treatment HiCommunication, which has shown positive effects. Her work is the largest study to date on speech and communication therapy in Parkinson’s disease and one of the few in the world investigating how treatment effects on speech and voice in Parkinson’s disease are related to changes in the brain.
