CLINTEC researcher appointed coordinator of ESHRE reproductive genetics group

Alberto Sola-Leyva, Assistant Professor at the Division of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, has been appointed Coordinator of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology’s Special Interest Group Reproductive Genetics. The appointment covers the 2026–2028 term.
The European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, ESHRE, is one of the major international scientific and professional organisations in reproductive medicine and reproductive science. It brings together more than 9,000 members from 135 countries.
Its Annual Meeting is the largest in-person scientific meeting dedicated to reproductive science and medicine. More than 13,000 participants attended the 2026 meeting in London.
Focus on reproductive genetics
ESHRE currently has 14 Special Interest Groups covering the main scientific and clinical areas of reproductive medicine. The groups stimulate scientific activity, education and collaboration, and contribute to the development of professional standards within their respective fields.
The Special Interest Group Reproductive Genetics focuses on the genetic and epigenetic basis of natural and assisted reproduction. Its areas of interest include the genetics of infertility, preimplantation genetic testing, known as PGT, and the genetic and epigenetic regulation of embryo development.
The group also covers the effects of assisted reproduction on the genome and epigenome, prenatal genetic screening and diagnosis, and emerging technologies for detecting and potentially correcting genetic disease in human gametes and embryos.
Its activities include evaluating genetic tests used in reproductive medicine, developing standards and expert recommendations, and reviewing emerging issues in reproductive genetics. The group also promotes collaborative research and networking across the field.
Scientific and educational activities
As Coordinator, Alberto Sola-Leyva will lead and coordinate the scientific activities of the Special Interest Group. He will work with the group’s Deputies, Junior Deputy and the wider ESHRE community.
The role includes developing educational and scientific initiatives, contributing to ESHRE Campus courses and Annual Meeting activities, and promoting international collaborations and working groups. It also involves helping to define emerging scientific priorities in reproductive medicine.
The appointment further strengthens the connection between Center for Embryonic and Prenatal Precision Medicine (PRECISE), Karolinska Institutet and the international reproductive genetics community. This particularly concerns areas central to PRECISE, including embryo development, genomic and epigenomic profiling, reproductive genetics, preimplantation and prenatal diagnostics, and precision reproductive medicine.
