Call for Nominations: Karolinska Institutet’s medals 2026

The medals are awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to support KI's activities and are available in three categories: the gold medal, the large silver medal, and the silver medal.
The medals may be awarded to a person who has made contributions to KI in one or more of the areas of:
- education
- doctoral education
- research
- collaboration with the surrounding community
- work environment/core values.
Medals should not be awarded exclusively as a counter-performance for financial contributions, gifts, or similar.
The medals are awarded to individuals who are at the end of their careers or no longer active.
Who may nominate?
All employees or former employees of KI as well as students and doctoral students enrolled at KI may submit proposals for medalists. The medal committee may also submit proposals.
Proposals for nominations should be submitted using the attached Nomination Form by February 25, 2026 to fonder@ki.se.
Facts about KI's medals
Gold Medal:
Awarded annually to a person, usually external, who has made outstanding contributions to KI, but cannot be appointed honorary doctor at the same time.
Large Silver Medal:
Awarded during the installation ceremony to a person, internal or external, who has made significant and wide-ranging contributions to KI.
Silver Medal:
Awarded during the installation ceremony to a person, primarily internal, who has made particularly valuable contributions to KI.
