Lectures and seminars Seminar: Unveiling an underestimated threat - the risks associated with cell lines and other biological materials
The aim of these CPD webinars (Continuing professional development) is to follow the legal requirements for maintenance and demonstration of competence in laboratory animal science, and to facilitate the implementations of the 3R’s in routine animal work.
Speaker
Massimo Foa, Global Product Manager at IDEXX BioAnalytics.
During the seminar, Dr Foa will provide an overview of the risks associated with the introduction of biological material and will also help understanding how to minimize such risks, with suggestions on testing methods and frequency in different scenarios (for example, cell lines, vs transplantable tumors).
A Q/A session will be held at the end of the seminar.
Register here latest by May 27, 12.00 CEST. The seminar is free och charge.
Abstract
Rodent and human biological materials (for example, cell lines, transplantable tumors, organs/tissues, body fluids) may represent a significant source of contamination and put at risk the health of the resident animals (for example, if the material in question originated from or passed through an infected animal), and may also have zoonotic concerns for the personnel performing procedures.
Untested material may also represent a significative scientific variable as, in case of contaminations, the reproducibility of the research may be affected.
