This presentation explores how research and medical discoveries have driven social progress and improved global child health, but also why the importance of science needs to be highlighted in a time of disinformation and declining trust.

We highlight Nobel Prize-winning scientific breakthroughs that have been crucial to children’s health, such as various vaccines, antibiotics and the understanding of disease mechanisms.

The lecture is based on a project in which upper secondary school students, medical students and paediatricians jointly selected the Nobel Prizes they believe have had the greatest significance for children’s health.
