Title: Copula-based virtual patient populations
Speaker: Laura Zwep, Leiden University

Please note that this event is not filmed nor streamed – only participation in person.

Abstract

Within quantitative pharmacology, researchers combine pharmacological knowledge and data to create models on how drugs flow through the body (pharmacokinetics) and how effective or toxic the drug is (pharmacodynamics). Pharmacometric models aim to simulate and predict patient treatment response based on patient-characteristics (covariates). Covariates are not always available, so we incorporated copulas in pharmacometric workflows to create virtual patient populations, which represent a realistic combination of covariates. In this talk, I will briefly explain the concept of copulas and proceed with virtual patient population implementation in pharmacometrics and methodological advancements.

About the speaker

Laura Zwep currently works as assistant professor in the Systems Pharmacology and Pharmacy department at LACDR, Leiden University. Her background is in biology and statistical science, before entering my PhD within the quantitative pharmacology. Her research focusses on bridging statistical methods and pharmacological modelling, with projects around model-based meta-analysis, aggregate data modelling and copula-based virtual populations.
