The use of new nicotine and tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products and nicotine pouches, is increasing rapidly, particularly among adolescents and young adults. In this seminar, Dr. Sofia Carlsson, first author of a recently publised review, will present the current scientific evidence on the health effects of these products, focusing on outcomes such as respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and pregnancy complications.

About the speaker

Sofia Carlsson is a Senior lecturer in Epidemiology at the Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet. Her research focuses on risk factors for diabetes, including smoking, snus and other nicotine products. She led a recent multidisciplinary review at IMM evaluating the evidence on health effects of e-cigarettes, white snus and heated tobacco products, which forms the basis of today's seminar.
