Lectures and seminars Polygenic and Developmental Profiles of Autism: Differences by Age at Diagnosis

Welcome to a KIND Open Webinar in English. Presenter is Varun Warrier from University of Cambridge.

Varun Warrier is a Principal Investigator and Assistant Professor of Neurodevelopment at the University of Cambridge. He will talk about his article Polygenic and developmental profiles of autism differ by age at diagnosis" published in Nature 2025.
"In this talk, I'll present our findings that challenge the idea that autism is a single polygenic concept and that autism diagnosed in late childhood and adolescence (later diagnosed autism) is a milder form of autism" says Varun Warrier. "
Our findings demonstrate a more complex story. We find that later diagnosed autism has different developmental trajectories to that of earlier diagnosed autism; is associated with more mental health conditions; and has a different polygenic profile to that of autism diagnosed before age six (earlier diagnosed autism)."
