Title
Adverse pregnancy and birth outcomes in women with biopsy-proven MASLD
Abstract
Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) has been linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease in the same individual, but if in utero exposure to maternal MASLD increases the risk of early-onset cardiovascular disease and/or metabolic disorders (e.g., obesity) in the offspring is unknown. This nationwide cohort study in Sweden examines the impact of maternal MASLD on cardiometabolic disease in the offspring, comparing offspring of women with biopsy-proven MASLD to matched reference offspring. The findings underscore the importance of monitoring and managing MASLD in pregnant women to mitigate risks and improve offspring health.
About the speaker
Carole Marxer is a postdoctoral researcher at MEB, working with Jonas Ludvigsson. Her current research focuses on epidemiological aspects of MASLD in pregnant women and their offspring. Carole Marxer is further trained as Pharmacist and Pharmacoepidemiologist and obtained her PhD degree in Epidemiology at the University of Basel, Switzerland.

Title
Mortality and cancer risk in MC
Abstract
Microscopic colitis (MC) is an inflammatory disorder of the colon that has long been regarded as a benign condition. Moreover, historical underdiagnosis and limited awareness have hindered large-scale studies of key outcomes. In this talk, I will focus on mortality and cancer risk in MC and discuss implications for clinical care.
About the speaker
David Bergman, MD, is a postdoctoral researcher in Jonas Ludvigsson’s group at MEB. His research focuses on risk factors for, and long-term outcomes of, microscopic colitis. He also practices as a physician specializing in family medicine.
