Lectures and seminars Bergström & Samuelsson MBB keynote lecture: "Spatial mass spectrometry-based proteomics: From Atlases to disease dynamics"

Matthias Mann obtained his Ph.D. in chemical engineering at Yale, contributing to the Nobel Prize in 2002 awarded to his supervisor John Fenn, for the development of electrospray ionization. Currently, he heads the Proteomics and Signal Transduction department at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Munich, while also directing the Proteomics Program at the Center for Protein Research at Copenhagen University.

As a pioneer in his field, Dr. Mann has made numerous groundbreaking technological advances and developed powerful computational and proteomics workflows for a wide range of biomedical applications, with an increasing emphasis on translational research. His team focuses on clinically relevant questions, including body fluid proteomics, single-cell tissue heterogeneity, signaling, and post-translational modifications.

With close to 1,000 publications, Dr. Mann is one of the most cited researchers globally, with an h-index of 286 and more than 390,000 citations. His mentorship has fostered the success of many researchers, and his group at the MPIB has spurred the formation of start-up companies.

Dr. Mann's contributions have garnered numerous prestigious accolades, including Canada's Gairdner International Award, election to the National Academy of Sciences, the Dr. H.P. Heineken Prize for Biochemistry and Biophysics (with Ruedi Aebersold), the Otto-Warburg Medal, Germany's Leibniz Prize, the Körber European Science Prize, the Louis-Jeantet Foundation Prize for Medicine, the HUPO Distinguished Achievement Award in Proteomic Science, and 'The Order of Dannebrog Knights Cross' conferred by the Queen of Denmark.
