Since 2014, the advisory board for culture at Karolinska Institutet has served as an advisory body to the university president. The members of the advisory board have managed, developed and brought to life the place of culture at KI – highlighting what unites science with artistic expressions such as art, music, dance and literature.

The importance of culture has gained a natural place at KI, thanks in large part to the advisory board for culture. Their work has led to several initiatives throughout the organisation.

We are now reviewing KI’s cultural activities with the stated goal of further strengthening the role of culture at our university. This means that the advisory board for culture in its current form will be dissolved. A group has been appointed to present a proposal for a more coordinated organisation to be presented later in 2026. The advisory board for culture has laid a solid foundation for what comes next, and I look forward to the proposal and the forms it will take.

In connection with this, I would like to thank all members of the advisory board for culture over the years, for your commitment, your enthusiasm and your firm conviction that culture has a natural place at a medical university. My hope is that you – and many more – will continue to be involved in cultural work at KI. The more advanced our scientific methods become and the more we discover, the greater the need for cultural expressions that can create understanding, arouse curiosity and touch people.

My warmest thank you.
