Swedish professor named one of world's 100 most influential people
[NEWS 18 April 2012] Hans Rosling, professor of international health at Karolinska Institutet, co-founder of the Gapminder Foundation and international educator in global health trends, is to be included this year in Time Magazine's annual list of the worlds hundred most influential people.
The list is compiled by the editors of Time Magazine following a selection process that includes a poll on the magazine's website.
Professor Hans Rosling and his son and daughter-in-law founded the Gapminder Foundation and developed the statistics software Trendalyzer, which Google later bought from the foundation. Gapminder provides free statistics on global indicators, such as life expectancy, child mortality, carbon emissions, poverty and economic growth, along with statistical facts on trends and differences through easy-to-comprehend animations and brief video presentations.
"It began as a tool for improving teaching at Karolinska Institutet," says Professor Rosling.
Sweden has featured previously in Time Magazines list of 100 most influential people with Skype co-founder Niklas Zennström and Professor Svante Pääbo.
