StratCan researchers receive ERC Advanced grants

Lauri Aaltonen (visiting professor at KI and StratCan affiliated since 2016), Thomas Helleday (professor at KI and awarded a 2015 KI-MDACC collaborative grant) Klas Wiman (professor at KI and StratCan faculty since 2010) all receive ERC Advanced grants.

The ERC Advanced Grants are designed for established and world leading researchers who strive to pursue ground-breaking research with exceptional scientific ambition. The funding is up to 2.5 million Euros per grant and lasts up to five years.

Lauri Aaltonen, visiting professor at the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition, receives the grant for the project MYCLASS; ”Towards prevention, early diagnosis, and noninvasive treatment of uterine leiomyomas through molecular classification”.

Thomas Helleday, professor at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, receives the grant for the project TAROX; "Targeting oxidative repair proteins for treatment of cancer and inflammation".

Klas Wiman, professor at the Department of Oncology-Pathology, receives the grant for the project TRANSREAD; ”Restoration of tumor suppressor function by induction of translational read-through of premature termination codons – a strategy for improved cancer therapy”.
