On 17 August the Swedish Security Service raised the terrorist threat level from 3 (elevated) to 4 (high) on a five-point scale on account of the increased threat of terrorism in the country. The Security Service believes that the threat will remain for the foreseeable future, and has raised the level as a signal to all public bodies that they must continue their efforts to reduce the risk of an attack.

They urge business as usual and advise us to carry on doing what we normally do but to be more alert and to keep ourselves informed.

Karolinska Institutet is monitoring developments, but there is currently no reason to make any changes to our planned activities regarding our staff and students. It is, however, important the existing security procedures are applied, such as denying admission to unauthorised people and reporting anything suspicious or out of the ordinary. KI is in regular contact with other universities, Region Stockholm, the police and the Swedish Security Service about the situation.

If you have any questions about KI and the security situation, contact the security unit: sakerhetsenheten@ki.se.

In the event of an emergency, alert the police on 112.
