Welcome to take part of the operational plan for KI's Professional Services 2026. The focus is on both joint priorities and the office’s own missions and areas of development in order to meet the needs of KI’s core activities, education and research.

KI's vision is to drive the development of knowledge about life and work for better health for all. To do this, professional, coordinated and optimised operational support is required to create good conditions for education and research of the highest quality.

Joint and department-specific priorities

Professional Services’ operational plan is the result of a joint planning process that has taken place in each office and in dialogue between the offices. At the same time, operational planning is also taking place within each campus group and department using a similar model.

“An open and responsible approach is essential if we at the Professional Services are to be able to offer effective support to KI’s core activities. This year’s operational plan clearly shows how we are continuing to develop our processes and forms of collaboration in order to strengthen both quality and community within the organisation,” says Veronika Sundström, University Director at KI.

Development of operational support – focus areas for 2026

Professional Services’ operational planning is based on the President's assignment to the University Director and Professional Services. This involves, among other things, further developing and streamlining operational support with a particular focus on the environment, security, digitalisation and the possibilities offered by AI. The work will contribute to providing the best possible conditions for research and education – with enhanced quality, better coordination and efficient use of resources.

For example, Professional Services is investing in the following areas of development in 2026:

  • Research support: developed research infrastructure and preparations for national initiatives within clusters of excellence and strategic research areas.
  • Strengthened Faculty Board and support structures, including the development of reports and quality systems for education.
  • In-depth digitalisation and development of AI as a strategic area, with continued development of IT services, administrative processes, increased competence and integration of AI solutions in research, education and administration.
  • Security, preparedness and sustainability, which continue to be key areas of development given the current situation and the President's instructions.
  • Leadership development to strengthen KI's management teams and review skills development for managers.

Dialogue-based follow-up

"I hope that the Professional Services’ operational plan will facilitate communication and a common understanding of how we contribute to KI's common goals within Professional Services, but also through collaboration with other parts of KI," says Veronika Sundström.

During the year, the University Director follows up on each office’s operational plan in dialogue with the office’s management. For certain issues, other parts of the organisation are invited to joint discussions.
