Philippa Reuterswärd Waldner recently joined Susanne Nylén's unit and Ulf Ribacke's team at the Department of Microbiology, Tumour and Cell Biology (MTC).

A warm welcom to Philippa Reuterswärd Waldner, who recently joined MTC to complete the post doc project on transcriptional regulation in malaria parasites, supported by the Swedish Research Council, that she started 2020 in Manuel Llinás lab at Penn State University US.

Despite extensive elimination and eradication efforts, malaria continues to be an enormous global health burden. In the deadliest malaria parasite, P. falciparum, transcriptional regulation is fundamental to parasite development.

By investigating a conserved transcriptional factor protein domain with unknown function, Philippa aims to identify new antimalarial drug targets to intervene with the parasite lifecycle development.

Philippa will be part of Ulf Ribacke’s team.
