Dr. Mtakai Ngara recently joined Susanne Nylén's unit and Akira Kaneko's team at the Department of Microbiology, Tumour and Cell Biology (MTC).

A warm welcom to Dr. Mtakai Ngara, doing a three year post-doc funded by a FORMAS mobility grant.

For the coming two years, he will combine work in Japan and in Kenya, to address the role of T cell in shaping immunity against malaria parasite.

The project will rely on RNAseq to identify malaria specific T cell and how they relate to the infecting Plasmodium falciparum parasites.

This integrated approach will allow better understanding of the development of clinical immunity against malaria and how to best design drugs and vaccines against the parasite.

Mtakai is associated with Akira Kaneko’s team.
