Replacement of sensors in halls and common premises on Campus Solna

On November 27, 2023, an exchange of sensors will begin in all KI's buildings on Campus Solna. The aim is to gain more knowledge about how our premises are used and contribute to creating a better indoor environment.

Starting v.47, sensors will be replaced at Karolinska Institutet

In our buildings, there are sensors that collect data about the use of the premises and the indoor climate. Through the sensors, we gain more knowledge about how our premises are used and contribute to creating better adapted surfaces for everyone who uses the premises. The goal is to create the conditions for a more sustainable use of the premises and improve the indoor environment. Some of these sensors need to be replaced with a more modern variant.

What do the sensors measure?

The sensors detect movement through passive IR technology and measure carbon dioxide level, room temperature and humidity. The sensors that detect movement work in much the same way as when the light in the toilets is switched on and off. Collected data will be used to analyze the degree of utilization in the premises.

Where are sensors replaced?

Sensors are planned to be replaced in all auditoriums, classrooms, computer rooms, group rooms and conference rooms as well as other bookable premises. Sensors will also be changed in common areas such as food areas and toilets.

Sensors will not be installed in office rooms. Collected data cannot be linked to individuals.

Timetable

Disassembly and installation of sensors is expected to begin during v.47.
