Problems with the search function on ki.se when browsing from the Solna and Flemingsberg campuses

We have long had issues with the search function we use on our website ki.se, which includes both KI’s external website and the Staff Portal. The problem affects those browsing on KI’s network, from Solna or Flemingsberg, or those making more than 60 searches in a very short period.

ki.se uses a search function from Google. The reason you are not getting any search results is that Google perceives KI’s network as a single “person” and classifies it as a bot, blocking searches when we reach a maximum limit.

Visitors from networks other than KI’s are not affected, so if you are, for example, at home, it works fine as long as you do not make more than 60 searches in a row in a very short period.

Since September, the web administration has been in contact with those responsible for the public sector at Google in Sweden. They have recently escalated the issue to a team that will hopefully be able to help resolve this.

Temporary workarounds

  1. If you don't get any results, we have added a link under the search box which takes you to Google’s regular search with delimitation for ki.se.
  2. Perform a regular Google search and add KI at the end, for example: “working hours ki”
  3. Search via this link: https://www.google.com/search?q=site:ki.se&oq=site:ki.se
