Neo closed on Saturday November 12th

Due to necessary work on the water in Neo, requiring a complete water shut-off (including safety features such as eye showers and emergency showers), lab work cannot safely be performed on Saturday, November 12th. Further, there will be tests on the fire/evacuation alarm during the same day, so you are recommended not to be in Neo this day.

Please plan your work accordingly!

  • With the water shut off, eye showers and emergency showers will not function, meaning no work with hazardous chemicals – including “merely” irritating ones.
  • The triggering of the fire alarm will activate the forced ventilation smoke evacuation; this can interfere with fume hoods and make them unsafe, as well as interfere with over- or under-pressure in e.g. cell nodes.
  • The fire/evacuation alarm will be triggered multiple times throughout the day, creating an audible inconvenience in all of Neo for most of the day.
  • With the fire alarm triggered, the elevators will be unreliable at best and at worst they will be unusable most of the day.

Since the work on the water necessitates emptying most or all of the pipes, expect pockets of air in the pipes when the water is restored; this can result in violent stuttering and sprays until the air is purged from the system.
