MEB's cost allocation model
MEB has introduced a new cost allocation model for costs relating to workspace, IT and KI library access.
Why a new model?
MEB's administration realised our old financial model was difficult to understand and very time consuming to work with. There were too many exceptions to the rule and it was difficult to understand and communicate.
The purpose of the cost allocation model is to create a fair, transparent and sustainable system that is easy to understand and easy to work with.
New model
From Jan 1, there are three different payment categories for staff: internal, external and KI student. For the categories internal and KI student most costs are covered by MEB while a few are paid by research projects. For the category external, costs are either paid by research projects or invoiced outside of MEB.
Another improvement for MEB is that the costs for IT have been added together in a nice package, including the central IT-fee (network, Office 365, e-mail, Teams, Zoom, backup, IT-support) and a MEB IT digital package (infrastructure, data storage, backup, service agreements, standard programs, VDI, Stata), phone subscriptions, and the fee for KI library access. Computer hardware is outside the package, as there is no standard equipment.
The costs for library access used to be covered by KI, but now the departments are responsible. MEB has decided to carry this cost and not charge the research projects. However, publication costs must be paid by the research projects.
Who needs to know this?
If you have personnel costs either for employees, students, external collaborators or yourself you will be charged based on the new model from April 1.
