Change in drinking water properties during weeks 40–43
During weeks 40-43, the properties of the drinking water will change due to the fact that Norrvatten will test run the new waterworks Ulriksdal's groundwater during the period.
Information from Solna Water
The groundwater has a very high quality, but a different technical composition than the surface water. It is reclassified as hard, meaning it contains relatively high levels of calcium and magnesium and has a higher salt content. The hardness of the water is 14 dH, compared to 5–6 dH for Lake Mälaren.
What does this mean for you and what actions do you need to take?
The average consumer will probably not notice the difference in water quality. Lime deposits may possibly occur in dishwashers and washing machines as well as kettles. Lime stains may also appear on air-dried dishes.
Businesses/companies that use technical equipment that is deemed to be affected by the composition of groundwater need to take water quality into account during the period. This applies to healthcare providers who operate dialysis equipment, district heating facilities, laundries, food producers, pharmaceutical companies, zoo stores that have aquariums and companies that have purification equipment for the production of ultrapure water.
During the period when groundwater is delivered, you can think of the following:
- Dose excessively hard water in washing machines and dishwashers.
- Any lime deposits can be easily removed with a weak acid, for example citric acid.
- Aquarium owners should be aware that some fish and aquatic organisms may be sensitive to hard water.
