New professors now installed

At this year’s installation ceremony, which was held at Karolinska Institutet on Friday 17 October, tribute was paid to the university’s 27 new professors and the recipients of several academic prizes and awards.

The 2014 ceremony in Aula Medica saw the installation of 13 new professors (25 in 2013), including ten men and three women. All were introduced by means of a short film in which they presented their research, which covered such diverse fields as cell and molecular biology, surgery, child and adolescent psychiatry and image and functional medicine.

The ceremony also celebrated the installation of 12 adjunct professors, as many as last year, who while now affiliated to Karolinska Institutet for 20 per cent of their time (in one or two cases up to 40-50 per cent), are financed by external bodies, such as Karolinska University Hospital, Danderyd Hospital, research foundations and the Swedish Cabinet Office and Ministries. The new adjunct professors comprise seven men and five women.

In addition, two new visiting professors based at overseas universities gained an affiliation to Karolinska Institutet for three years. This year, we welcomed Marta Alarcón Riquelme, medical inflammation research, and Emily Holmes, clinical psychology.
The winners of the year’s major academic prizes were also celebrated during the ceremony.
