New guidelines and instructions for research centres

At KI, it is possible to establish research centres within special research areas. As from 1 March 2023, there are new guidelines and instructions for the formation and management of internal research centres and research centres controlled by KI.

The guidelines state overall principles for research centres, and the instructions specify criteria for establishment and follow up. Research centres should be a joint effort to solve one or several specific research challenges that cannot be solved within the framework of the existing research organisation at KI. The Committee for Research is responsible for the approval of applications and for conducting follow-ups on existing centres.

The purpose of the guidelines and instructions is to clarify the prerequisites for research centres and to achieve a uniform management of already existing research centres at KI. These guidelines and instructions replace the previous corresponding document "Centre formations at Karolinska Institutet – guidelines for setting up, etc" (in Swedish, dnr 1128/06-010).
