New central licence agreements for software
The IT Office is expanding its software portfolio with three titles with a large KI user base.
When we have the opportunity to consolidate purchases, the cost goes down. At the same time, the administration is reduced as users only need to place an order in Wisum for a subscription that runs until terminated. In other cases, a more cumbersome process is required where an individual buyer purchases software and has to ensure it is renewed annually. Our installation portals Software Center/Self Service (Mac) also simplify the installation.
The three new software are these:
SnapGene
A software that helps you plan, visualise and document DNA cloning and PCR. Ordered through Wisum, the cost will be 150 SEK/month - compared to buying individual licences, this is about 45% cheaper.
NVivo
Software used to organise and analyse data. A KI subscription costs 420 SEK/month, which is about 600 SEK cheaper per year compared to individual orders.
BioRender
Popular software for creating scientific illustrations to use in articles, among other things. A licence will cost 200 SEK/month and will be delivered in the second half of January 2024, but you can already place a pre-order in Wisum to access the application as soon as it is available.
According to IT Offices’s forecast, this agreement alone will lower KI’s annual cost by about 500,000 SEK.
Don’t forget to cancel your license agreements
Don’t forget that if you have a licence you bought alone, you must cancel it. Contact the supplier who has a simple process for this - otherwise, contact Helpdesk if you need more specific help or if you are transitioning from a group license.
Upcoming price increase for Graphpad Prism
At the same time, as we lower the costs for these licences, we are sometimes forced to raise the price. Thanks to large purchase volumes, we have not had to do so in recent years despite a weak SEK, but now the manufacturer of GraphPad Prism has raised the price, which means that we need to adjust this to 90 SEK/month from March 2024. Compared to buying single licences, this is still a saving of 60%.
