Monthly report KI RIMS - April

This is a short report from the project team working on the implementation of KI RIMS. The posts are aimed at those who are interested in the work of adapting the product Elements from Symplectic to KI's requirements and conditions and want to follow the development process.

User testing

Over the past month, the project has begun user testing. Prospective users have been asked to complete defined tasks and scenarios, and have been asked to evaluate usability. In this way, the project team has started to build an understanding of both what works well, what needs to be adjusted in KI RIMS and where the focus of future training materials should be. The project then transfers the configuration to the production environment, while documenting it. Through the user tests, the project has received an overall confirmation that the users see the future RIMS system as useful.

End user support

The part of the project that works with end-user support has carried out a rough planning and resourcing of future activities in this area. Support for users who will use KI RIMS consists of information material, training material and a support function. All three of these are under development and are dependent on other activities: On the one hand, we continue to work on user tests as described above, and on the other hand, the project needs to work with departments to define what each administrative role should do both at the launch of KI RIMS and in the continued work.

Reports and lists

Report templates, dashboards and data extracts make it possible to extract information from KI RIMS based in different ways. About ten prioritized formatted report templates, dashboards and data extracts have been selected based on the needs of the user groups, which means that the project is ready to start creating and/or ordering them.

Labels and hierarchies

KI RIMS offers employees the functionality to add labels, also known as labels, classifications, tags, to many different objects: the personal profile, their publications, their groups, their grants, etc. These labels will be selectable from certain schemas, but in some cases can also be set freely, with selectable labels. Our schemas include Swedish and English MeSH.

Groups

It is important that the group structure developed is suitable for all the types of groupings that exist both inside and outside KI's formal structure. The project group is involved in the development of new functionality for managing groups in KI RIMS through ongoing coordination with the supplier. A proof of concept has been carried out to test a first version of the group page. This in turn means that the work of configuring group pages can begin.

Search and filter on KI.se

To create the possibility of good functionality for searching and filtering on KI's websites, we have had to find a complement to our current system. The choice fell on "Solr", a technology that stores, indexes, and restructures the information.
