During a ceremony at the Swedish Parliament, the Researcher of the Year award was presented to, among others, Matti Sällberg, professor and Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Karolinska Institutet.

With the Research of the year award, Forska!Sverige wants to draw attention to those who were in the very first stage of dealing with the pandemic.

Anna Nilsson Vindefjärd, Secretary General of Forska! Sverige motivates the award:

– This year's researcher award is given to Matti Sällberg, who together with research colleagues around the world has fought hard against time to increase knowledge about the virus and ways to respond to the pandemic. At the same time, he has taken on a responsibility beyond what is expected by taking on an important role in the dissemination of knowledge in society that is absolutely necessary, but very difficult and time-consuming, when a new disease breaks out and affects Sweden and the whole world.
