Martin Eklund receives a Junior Investigator Award from the Swedish Cancer Society 2016

The Swedish Cancer Society has decided to award four cancer researchers the Junior Investigator Award 2016 and Martin Eklund at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics is one of the recipients. His project entitled "Personalized prostate cancer diagnostics: Towards implementation of organized prostate cancer screening" is about a new method for early detection of prostate cancer by screening.

It has long been debated if men should be called to prostate cancer screening, since an early detection increases the chances of survival. Today such screening is however not recommended since we can't tell the difference between benign or malignant prostate cancer with today's technique. But last year, researchers at Karolinska Institutet presented a test that is more specific called STHLM3 and Martin Eklund will now look into how STHLM3 can be used in organized prostate cancer screening.
