Food as medicine is a research line that intends to highlight the importance of changing food habits towards a diet that is good for our health and for the planet. This concept is beneficial to prevent the development of diseases, mainly noncommunicable diseases and also for treating part of the metabolic disorders present in the noncommunicable diseases. This lecture will focus on two ongoing studies at Baxter Novum, Nephrology Division - CLINTEC, of Karolinska Institutet, using the concept of "Food as medicine" for patients with chronic kidney disease.
About the speaker
Carla Maria Avesani is a dietitian, PhD, Associate Professor at Rio de Janeiro State University (Brazil) and currently working as research coordinator at Baxter Novum, Nephrology Division - CLINTEC. She has a background in clinical research with focus on the nutritional aspect of patients with chronic kidney disease.
