KI hosts EUA Doctoral Week
[NEWS 2012-08-29] Between 23-27 September, Karolinska Institutet will host EUA Doctoral Week. During this week of events, EUA (European University Association) offers a special opportunity to engage with three highly relevant and topical issues for doctoral education: global trends, funding and quality assurance. More than 200 delegates from all over the world are expected to participate.
In three separate but connected events, participants will have the chance to deepen their understanding of different aspects of doctoral education, from discussions about global developments to implementing local reforms in individual universities:
1. Global trends. The first event presents the findings on a major project on cooperation between countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. Central themes that will be tackled include how increased internationalization affects the global interconnectivity of universities and national strategies.
2. Funding. Different models of investment in doctoral education will be presented and critically examined during the second event of the week. Another important theme that will be highlighted is the interplay between excellence and capacity building.
3. Quality assurance. The final event, a workshop, will provide an opportunity to engage in discussions on this topic, share good practices and to formulate recommendations on how to ensure transparency and accountability in doctoral schools and programmes.
