Last week, several members of FyFa attended the Metabolism in Action conference, hosted by Novo Nordisk and organized by the Novo Nordisk Foundation Science Cluster. The event brought together leading cardiometabolic researchers and junior scientists to discuss groundbreaking advancements in the field.

One highlight of the conference was when Allan Zhao, a PhD student in Qiaolin Deng’s lab at FyFa, received an award for his poster titled "Maternal type 1 diabetes programs sex-dimorphic cardiometabolic dysfunction in offspring." The work explores how maternal type 1 diabetes affects the development and health of offspring, focusing on sex-specific differences in cardiometabolic outcomes.

“This award is incredibly meaningful,” Zhao shared. “It’s a sign of appreciation from peers and experts in the field, and it motivates us to continue tackling these important questions.”

The recognition is particularly significant for Zhao, who is passionate about understanding how maternal and paternal health conditions impact offspring physiology and disease susceptibility. His doctoral research delves into the non-genetic predisposition for cardiometabolic diseases, a critical area in modern medicine.

Looking ahead, Zhao will begin a Forskar-AT-läkare position next year, combining clinical training with the final stages of his PhD. This unique opportunity will allow him to bridge research and clinical practice, contributing further to the understanding and treatment of cardiometabolic diseases.

Congratulations to Allan Zhao and the entire FyFa team for this outstanding achievement!
