Friends of KI fund grant for studies at Karolinska Institutet
[NEWS 27 October 2011] A donation from Karolinska Institutet's US fundraising organisation will enable an American student to undertake a one- or two-year master's course at KI for free.
The donation is the first to be received by Karolinska Institutet since Sweden's student funding reforms came in on 1 July this year, which means that foreign students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland must now pay tuition fees at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
"This is a fantastic and important donation, and we hope it marks the beginning of a trend where more international students have the opportunity to study here on grants", says Mikael Horal, Director of the Development Office at Karolinska Institutet.
The grant is open to US students only and is for a masters course starting in autumn 2012.
Friends of Karolinska Institutet is a US non-profit organisation which actively supports KI's fundraising in the USA and is tax-exempt under US rules. It is chaired by Barbro Osher, Sweden's consul general in San Francisco.
