Participants sought for studies Do you want to get better balance? We are looking for participants for a research project with highly challenging balance training in MS

Are you interested in participating in a research project at Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital, where we want to study the effects of intensive and challenging balance training in people with multiple sclerosis (MS)?

This is how it works

Participation in the study means that approximately one week before and one week after the end of the training period, we collect information about your balance and walking ability, attention, memory, activity ability, quality of life, mood, fatigue, incidence of falls and fear of falling, using clinical tests and questionnaires. The tests take place at Karolinska University Hospital in Solna (Gävlegatan 55), and are estimated to take 90 - 120 minutes.

After initial testing, it is decided by lottery whether you belong to the intervention group that will participate in the balance training program or whether you will participate in a control group.

The balance training program will take place in groups of six to eight participants at Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge (Hörselslingan 2). The training will last twice a week for ten weeks, approximately 60 minutes at each training session. You can choose between three different training sessions each week.

If you are assigned to the control group, you will not participate in the balance training program now, but you will be offered to participate later.

Who can participate?

You are a good fit if you:

  • Are 18 to 65 years old and have a diagnosis of MS
  • Perceive impaired balance but can walk 100 meters without aid
  • Do not have any other medical conditions that may affect your balance and walking ability or your cognitive/thinking

If this sounds interesting, please contact us for more information or to register your interest! Email or call the phone number below and leave a message with your name and phone number and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
